(AS/400) Capacity Planning - Analysis and Prediction
Capacity planning is the starting block for any planned system upgrade or rationalisation/consolidation
project. This service, starts with gaining a good understanding of your business
needs, current situation in terms of performance and capacity and your requirements
in terms of resolving current performance issues, accommodating new workloads
/ workload growth, or indeed building an entire new system model that can be
used to run the workloads of another system for the purpose of rationalisation
or consolidation.
Initially we conduct a brief analysis of current system performance. This helps
to identify system bottlenecks or limitations that need to be resolved when
we create the system model. Due to the wide range of system models available,
both new and second user and the number of overlaps in terms of disk capacity
through, card slots and processor performance, any number of which could fulfil
your requirements. The new system or upgrade could be influenced as much by
budget as it could by workload or desired performance. In order to provide you
with as much relevant information as possible, unless requested otherwise, we
review various scenarios based on different systems, both current and those
available on the second user market.
The report will provide details on current system performance and then go on
to review various system configurations and ascertain the impact of the workload
on performance in terms of response times, transaction throughput, and CPU usage.
We will also explore the models ability to accommodate workload growth, providing
details of the impact growth has on response times, transaction throughput and
CPU usage as we grow the workload(s).
From the various tables and information contained in the report you will be
able to make an informed decision about the upgrade or new system that will
best suit your needs today and for how long, based on predicted growth.
Deliverables:
Detailed report providing details on current performance and various
scenarios based on required performance and capacity to accommodate further
growth.
Meetings to discuss requirements and findings.
Benefits:
Customers can make better-informed decisions.
Report can be used to justify spend.
Report can be changed or additional scenarios explored and documented
relatively quickly at no extra cost.
